At Aery we strive to produce healthy, beautiful dogs. With that goal in mind, we constantly evaluate ourselves and our breeding stock. Much thought goes into each breeding and each animal has undergone the necessary health testing before they are bred. All of our dogs are OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) certified and eyes are examined yearly. We also test our dogs with the Optigen PRCD-PRA DNA test and all dogs have tested "A" to date.
Richard's start in dogs began at the age of 20 when he worked for professional handlers. After acquiring his first silver miniature poodle in 1995 from his employer, Bill Cunningham, Richard was hooked. Richard now resides in Redding, Connecticut.
Since Aery's beginnings in 1996, the conception of our first litter, the number of titled Aery miniatures is ever increasing. We have many more on their way to the show ring and have litters on the way.
Makes a great pet: Miniature poodles are sweet, friendly dogs that are excellent with kids, bond to whole family, are excellent as watchdogs, and are highly trainable and intelligent. An advantage of poodles over other dogs is that they don't shed and are hypoallergenic (they don't have dander).
What's up with that haircut? Various clip styles are available for poodles and it's a matter of the owner deciding what he wants for the dog. The only time this is not the case is if the dog is to be shown. There, the clip must follow the Breed Standard. The show clip was created originally for practical reasons leaving the hair long to protect the heart and chest from cold water, clipping the legs decreased drag while swimming (for ducks).
